Heritage in Every Stitch

KAWI is a brand registered under Ceritera Travel Sdn. Bhd. (formerly Baju Langkawi) started off with men’s batik shirt with an Asian collar. A fusion of a collar used by the main ethnicities in Malaysia (Malay ‘cekak musang’, Chinese ‘Mandarin collar’, Indian ‘Nehru collar’), done in batik fabric, a cultural heritage of Malaysia and its neighbours. In Malaysia, it has mostly been lost from mainstream visibility over the last two generations.

Handcrafted with love by women in Langkawi Island, for both men and women all over the world.

All products of KAWI were designed, sewn and packed by “Orang Langkawi”. We are devoted to the participation of local communities, offering them an opportunity to reach the world.

“Orang Langkawi:” In Malaysian language, can be defined as children who were born and raised in Langkawi, a cluster of island in the north of Malaysia with a population of around 99,000, and residents who calls Langkawi home.
We believe in creating opportunities for children to learn, may it be inside or outside of the classroom.

From providing children access to quality education, access to opportunities to tap the global market, and single mothers to work from home. We are devoted to bringing the best out of Orang Langkawi.

Sustainability

Our projects are projects that elevates and empowers single mothers and work-from-home communities  & allow access to quality education to children in rural areas. By creating job opportunities, we hope to  achieve zero hunger and poverty in Langkawi Island.

Single mothers

Single mothers may find it challenging to work beyond home, due to household or family responsibilities.

Many single mothers face difficulties working outside the home due to household and family responsibilities. At KAWI, we create flexible opportunities through our batik production, allowing them to work from home while supporting their families. Each piece is more than just handcrafted—it’s a reflection of resilience, tradition, and community empowerment in Langkawi.

Our Community

Baju KAWI engages these work-at-home communities by offering flexible, home-based opportunities. The stitching of Baju Langkawi can be done from home, at a pace that fits into the rhythm of daily life—whether between caring for children, preparing meals, or other household responsibilities.

This model allows single mothers, homemakers, and other members of the local community to earn a sustainable income without having to leave their families behind. It’s more than just sewing clothes—it’s about restoring dignity, preserving heritage, and creating pathways for Orang Langkawi to thrive through meaningful, hands-on work.

We are committed to ensuring single mothers are not left behind in this fast-paced era, while  developing better and more sustainable income opportunities within communities.
